My mother loves to tell about how I was such a picky (and difficult...) child, always being very opinionated about every last detail, including that my sock seams had to be perfectly lined up along the edges of my toes. Things haven't changed much since my childhood, you're thinking. Kate, having an opinion about something? That's new...
Well, it turns out, the old saying "like mother like daughter" holds some truth. We have been waging a battle all week long with Ava and the bottle situation. While she took her first bottle like a champ, much to my relief, she quickly learned that it's just not the same as mommy. We have been playing musical chairs: changing formulas, changing bottles, giving her pumped breast milk, warming the bottle...
I believe we are making progress, but she will only take certain formulas, wants to have breast milk mixed in the bottle, and absolutely INSISTS that the bottle is warmed. Quite opinionated on the matter, I'd say....I think we're headed straight for a serious sock-seam situation in a few years. While I've been near the point of tears fearing that my child will starve to death upon my return to work on Monday, I have also laughed out loud on multiple occasions that she is quite stubborn, just like her mommy. We all knew I had it coming.
On a lighter note, Ava is now a world-class traveler. Or at least well-versed on the interstates of the Midwest United States. She took her first road trip last weekend to North Judson, Indiana, to visit Jake's extended family. I have to say she was a pretty good little traveler, and she made quick friends with the family! Here is some evidence of her escapade:
