This year, we decided to stay in for Valentine's Day. We had a dinner for my work to attend on Saturday, so we didn't feel like getting a babysitter again just 3 days later. I think Ava had a great day from beginning to end. I actually don't have an pictures from today, but several cute stories.
This morning, when Ava woke up, I had a Valentine's Day present for her. She tore it open an saw the Rosetta (from Tinkerbell) toy inside and exclaimed, "Oh! This is just what I was wanting!" I of course had to help her change Rosetta's clothes, making me 10 minutes late for work, but it was worth it.
She had a Valentine's Day party at school, at which she got to give all of her friends the Princess valentines she had picked out. When I asked her how the party was, she said, "It was great! All of the kids were just running around and screaming!" Which is probably pretty accurate, if they all got to eat candy during the party. :)
Jake helped Ava pick out some flowers for me this evening. Jake usually gets me tulips rather than roses for Valentine's Day, which I kind of like. When I asked Ava what kind of flowers they had picked out, she said, "They're hooloos". I guess that's kinda close.
I made homemade lobster pot pies for dinner tonight. Ava devoured hers, and I swear she managed to get the pot pie with the most lobster meat of all. Jake said, "Nice job on dinner Kate." I replied, "Thank you." Ava chimed in, "Dad, say 'You're Welcome' to Kate". He obliged. About halfway through her meal, Ava popped up, "Thanks for making this really nice dinner, Mom." So adorable when she gives unsolicited compliments. I think she thinks she's an adult. :)
We had cupcakes for dessert, and as usual, Ava ate all of the icing off of hers first. We then got to pretend it was her birthday and sing the birthday song, twice, as she blew out each of the candles on the table. She was really confused as to why there were candles when it was no one's birthday.
Tonight after dinner Ava put on the new ballet slippers that Mawmaw and Pawpaw gave her for Valentine's day. When she put them on, she exclaimed, "They don't even hurt my feet!" Um....I guess the ones she had been wearing were a little snugger than I had realized. Oops. :) She showed off some awesome dance moves which I'm sure she can't wait to show off this weekend when her family comes in town for her birthday.
Happy Valentine's Day!
